CAUSING AN ADDICTION TO GOD OR RELIGION PLAYS INTO THE HANDS OF TYRANTS

 

Religion says God is so good we should want him to exist.  So if we want to believe in God we will. The God belief seeks to become an addiction. It goes with the notion that we should want God to exist. If there is a God it means there is a being all-loving and all-perfect and whose holiness and goodness are infinite. It follows then that we should live as if there were a God even if God doesn’t exist.  Why? Because in an ideal existence he would exist and we need our ideals.
 
We see then why many of the most powerful tyrants in history have always encouraged belief in God, for example Constantine the Great.  They want us to ground all things solely on a version of divine goodness that suits them.  They want us to put this person who represents and supposedly enforces their values before ourselves.
 
Do you really want to believe in this God who comes first when trying to love him first of all will only bring misery on you if you attempt to stop loving your sweetheart most of all?
 
To put a divine being first is putting faith before yourself. It is putting belief before yourself and others. That is essential fanaticism. The decent person may believe things but is careful to make sure that if her beliefs are wrong no harm will be done. Always keep on the safe side.

 

 

Christianity defines love as a free choice - an act in which you give yourself in heart and soul and action completely to another. Real love has NO regard for yourself. The Church tells husbands and wives to have no regard for themselves. The love of God means caring about pleasing God and what he wants without regard for yourself. The Church is clear that if anybody deserves that kind of love it is God. Love is giving and is about what is right and good for the other. Notice that this kind of love only lets you look after yourself for the sake of the other person. It is about the other person only. If your looking after yourself does not help the other person or hurt them then it does not matter about you. Who would be able to love you and care for you if they asked that of you? Nobody. The doctrine is one of degrading yourself in the name of love.
 
Loving God more than yourself or any person is wrong. It should not be encouraged and should be firmly but kindly reprimanded.  Love is all about wellbeing but what if hypothetically you had to kill God so that somebody might live? Love for God cannot mean you want him to exist no matter what.  Putting God first is evil.
